Jeanette Meehan was born in 1965 in Point La Haye, Newfoundland and Labrador. She began as a studio assistant for Christopher Pratt in 1984 helping with print making, priming canvases, stretching watercolour paper, and eventually underpainting.
In the time Jeanette assisted in Pratt’s Studio, she gradually started working on her own doing watercolours and oil paintings. Jeanette paints objects found on the shoreline, sitting on wharves and items she finds around Newfoundland’s many rural communities. Jeanette enjoys painting objects in a realistic style which combines her love of shadows and her own ideas of what could become a painting.
In 2008 Jeanette had her first group show at the Emma Butler Gallery. And in 2014 another show with a fellow artist. Her work is owned in private collections throughout Canada and can also be found in public collection’s such as St. John’s City Hall, as well as The Rooms Art Gallery.
Jeanette lives in Torbay, NL where she has recently established her new studio.
